Sustainability & Environment
In a volatile and uncertain world, organizations today need to constantly improve the social, environmental, and economic conditions in which it operates
Committed to sustainability, Milly Glass takes pride in its green energy initiatives, glass recycling programs, and the resale of waste for recycling
In the face of a volatile and unpredictable world, the imperatives of sustainability have become paramount for organizations seeking a positive and lasting impact. At Milly Glass Limited, we steadfastly believe in upholding the three pillars of sustainability – social, environmental, and economic well-being.
Moreover, we have embraced green energy initiatives, such as the installation of roof-top solar panels, to harness clean and renewable energy sources. This forward-looking approach not only bolsters our commitment to sustainability but also allows us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. Beyond our internal efforts, we also extend our commitment to sustainability by supporting local economies.
Embracing sustainable practices is not a mere aspiration; it is an intrinsic part of our ethos. Through continuous innovation and diligent adherence to environmentally-friendly technologies, we strive to minimize our ecological footprint. Our state-of-the-art facilities are equipped with cutting-edge measures to optimize resource usage, minimize waste generation, and curtail emissions.
Environmental degradation and climate change have been identified as one of the foremost challenges of the 21st century by the Global Risk Report of the World Economic Forum.
We at Milly Glass, firmly believe that sustainable production is the key to our success and in the long-run are collectively stepping up our initiatives towards environmental conservation and climate action for a sustainable future for all.
We are optimizing our use of natural resources and aligning our processes to embrace a circular economy across every aspect of our operations. We are enhancing energy efficiency thereby reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Glass is a perfect example for “Circular Economy”. Glass can be melted and produced infinite number of times. In other words, partaking in recycling means that the economy can continue to flourish in a sustainable way, by reusing materials and creating jobs in order to remake and resell products.
We at Milly Glass use waste glass or pieces of broken glass which are called as “Cullets” in Production thereby prolonging Land Use and reducing Greenhouse gas emissions.
Energy consumption for Glass Melting drops by 3% for every 10% of Cullet’s used, which contributes to the nation’s sustainability goals.
Every ton of recycled glass saves 670 Kg of CO2. We at Milly Glass recycle 18,250 Tons of Glass annually.
Milly Glass on its own has been on the forefront in this initiative. We have developed hustlers into entrepreneurs and currently partnering with 50+ Small & Medium sized entrepreneurs across the country.
This initiative of ours could get more impetus with favorable Government policies, tax subsidies and grants for this sector and help us create more Glass Recycling Plants across the country and in turn generate more employment.
We at Milly are a true patron of “Buy Kenya! Build Kenya”.
At Milly Glass, we have set up an Energy Task Force whose main objective is to look at ways of lowering our Energy Consumption by continuous improvement program. Summarizing below some of the key achievements:
Our Phase 2: 1 MW Roof Top Solar Project is in the final stages of approval with EPRA.
We expect the Phase 2 into operation within 3 months from getting the license from EPRA.
This will cumulatively increase our Renewable Energy Generation to 30% of our Daily Power requirement thereby significantly reducing our carbon footprint.
Hence with a positive blueprint for Energy Policy at national level, industries can grow and compete aggressively in the world market.
